Helmet Woes!

Well as many of you know I bought a Shoei XR-1100 helmet in XL size. The helmet is awesome, however it turned out to be too big and didn’t quite fit properly when I tried various fitting tests to make sure it was sitting right. UK Laws however state you can’t return them to the shop once you have walked out.

Therefore I needed to make an emergency purchase and buy a new one. My local Shoei dealer had a good selection but nothing in Matt Black. They did however have the Swell model in stock which was my original choice when I was first looking at the XR-1100′s however it was out of my price range. The dealer was awesome though and having explained my dilemma, they were willing to knock £80 off the price and sell me it for the same price as a plain finish.

Sold, the helmet is awesome and with my black visor looks superb!

I think I’ve just been one of those unfortunate people who has been ill advised on a helmet fit and urge everyone to have a proper fitting from your local authorised dealer before purchasing. Keep the helmet on for 15 mins or so around the shop, to make sure it doesn’t loosen too much and also that it’s not too tight and you start to get a headache or pressure on your forehead.

There is a pretty good video on YouTube of some things you can try to make sure the fit is just right… check it out below.
